The main aim of banning some or all Sunday activities is to promote the observance of the day of worship. The blue law may also ban buying of some items on specific days. The blue laws are commonly enforced in United States, Canada, and European  particularly Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and Norway. In the United States, Supreme Court has held blue law as constitutional many times. The labor unions and trade associations have supported the  legislation of blue law. In United State, most States ban the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays. New Jersey practices blue law as a ban on selling clothes, shoes, home supplies and appliances on Sunday. Prohibition of Sunday labor was first noted in 538.
